As a high sec miner who runs 2 hulk toons and a hauling toon (soon to be orca), more ganking would not change things a lot for me at all, the hulks would end up with T2 tanks and drones rather than T1 and i would split my battleship toon off as a 4th account and have it sitting in the belt with my mining operation. I might possibly downsize to covertors maxed for yield, if i was loosing ships too regularly, i would just make myself less of a valued target and much harder to kill.
All these calls for reducing high sec earning potentials seems kind of odd to me. Anyone played as a noobie lately and see just how hard it is to earn isk? Most noobs have the ass out of their pants just putting a cruiser fit together and that's just for something basic so they can do L2 missions and earn what 2mil an hour. Only to have some "hero" come along and gank them for being a "carebear" and put them back at square one flying a noob ship and busting their ass to get another cruiser. Spend a day in an NPC corp and you will see plenty of them.
Thankfully i am in a position where dumping $1000 into plex to sell for isk is not an issue to me, and it is certainly a lot easier than playing 10 hours a day just to make ends meet. But everyone does not have the same level of luxury and for the noob on a budget its hard work to get anywhere in the game.
Also the assumption that all high sec players are scared carebears who don't like PVP is flawed. Some of us, just don't care for competitive play anymore and are just social gamers. My days of hard core fanaticism are over. Its been 2 years since i have seriously played any games, but back then i ran the top guild/corp in the game and biggest and strongest alliance had 40 maxed out characters at my disposal for 1 man pk sprees, had a character farm pumping out 10 max level chars a week, ran 50 bots 24/7 and as i also developed the bot i used, had a subscrition service i ran as well. I did this for over 5 years, staying one setp ahead of the game devs and most likely makeing way more money per year than they were.
So for me, playing eve is about running my little mining business, filling the couple quota's i have and the rest of my time is spent chatting in NCP corp chat with the people who i have made friends with or helping out some noobs with missions or questions. Sure i could do all that in 0.0, but why bother, the last time i went down there i make 35 jumps and did not see a single person. I guess this is why some are advocating for more high sec ganking, the general availability of easy targets, not just vast empty space jump after jump after jump.
